Can Invisalign Fix Different Bite Issues?
A common misconception is that clear aligners are only suited to cosmetic straightening — crowding, spacing, that sort of thing. In practice, Invisalign's current system can correct a meaningful range of bite problems too, provided the case is planned by someone experienced enough to know where its limits are.

Overbite
An overbite is when the upper front teeth sit significantly further forward than the lower teeth. Left untreated, it can lead to uneven wear, jaw strain, and in some cases speech changes. Aligners correct it by gradually moving the upper teeth back and the lower teeth forward until the bite meets properly — a gradual, staged process tracked at each check-in.
Underbite
An underbite is the reverse: the lower teeth extend past the upper teeth. This can make chewing uncomfortable and put uneven pressure on the jaw joint. Mild to moderate underbites generally respond well to Invisalign. More severe skeletal cases — where the jaw bones themselves, not just the teeth, are misaligned — may need to be paired with additional orthodontic or surgical input, which is exactly why an assessment before treatment matters.
Crossbite
In a crossbite, one or more upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth instead of outside them, as they normally should. Left uncorrected for years, this can contribute to gum recession and uneven tooth wear on the affected side. Aligners guide the affected teeth back into their correct position gradually, the same way they do for the other bite types above.
Why the provider matters as much as the aligner
Invisalign's software can simulate a lot of tooth movement — but knowing which movements are realistic for a given bite, and which need a different plan entirely, comes from experience with real cases, not the software alone. That's the reasoning behind Align Technology's own Platinum Elite tier: it's awarded strictly on the volume of cases a provider has actually treated, not on marketing. It's also why we recommend a proper in-person assessment before assuming any bite issue is — or isn't — treatable with aligners alone.
